Barcelona Responds to Eric Chelle's Comments, Reiterates No Intention to Sign Victor Osimhen
As the summer transfer window approaches, Barcelona is actively planning to reinforce its squad following a remarkably successful season. The club has prioritized strengthening key positions, notably targeting a new left winger and a goalkeeper, with Luis Diaz and Joan Garcia identified as prime candidates for these roles.
Speculation has arisen regarding the club’s potential interest in bolstering their attacking options, especially considering Robert Lewandowski's age. Victor Osimhen, who spent the recent season on loan at Galatasaray, has been a name discussed in this context. According to a report from The Barca Universal, Osimhen’s national team coach, Eric Chelle, highlighted Barcelona as a possible destination for the Nigerian striker, stating, “Maybe to a club like Manchester United. Or maybe Barcelona, Chelsea or Real Madrid,” emphasizing Osimhen’s high profile and market value.
Despite the buzz, Barcelona’s official stance remains clear. According to SPORT, the club is not interested in signing Osimhen this summer. The team has no plans to add a new striker to their roster, as confirmed by sporting director Deco. When asked about a potential move for Viktor Gyokeres, Deco clarified, “We’re not looking for that position. We already have Lewandowski to play at number 9, so it’s not a position we’re pursuing right now.”
Lewandowski continues to be central to Barcelona’s attacking strategy, having finished the season as the club’s top scorer with 42 goals in 52 appearances. With confidence in his abilities, Deco remains optimistic about Lewandowski’s role as the leading striker for the 2025/26 season, reaffirming that the club’s focus will remain on strengthening other areas of the squad.
